When I was a senior, my reading list was comprised of piles on piles of fiction. I'm hesitant to actually admit that the Twilight Series was big when I was in (GASP) high school. Reading non-fiction was not on my radar, especially when I was reading textbooks. It wasn't until I went to a photography conference and one of the speakers brought up business books that I realized that I should be taking in literature that would help me professionally. Since then I've alternated one business book with one "fun" book and it has helped me immensely. Let's face it, a lot of times senior year brings with it some uncertainty, and more than a bit of procrastination or a lack of motivation. It is easy to just coast to the finish line, but this is a great time to take in some literature that will get you fired up to achieve your goals and inspired to find your passion. In this post I am going to share the Top Five Books I think will help you on your journey!
1. The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone
Especially good around New Year, but really appropriate for any time you are goal setting. Ahem... starting college?? This book is filled with actionable steps to set your goals, and follows them up with motivation to light a fire in you. When I read it I took pages of notes and have been recommending it nonstop.
2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
An easy read you can accomplish in a day. It follows a boy on a journey of self-discovery, and is filled with nuggets of wisdom that make you think and listen to your intuition. This is one I re-read every year and always take away something new.
Have a big project looming over you, or just can't get motivated? This book is almost interactive in the sense that you'll answer questions as you read the book. Looking at the answers to the questions will help clarify your next steps, and will also have you questioning yourself to ensure you aren't assuming you've earned something you haven't.
4. Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk
If you haven't heard of Gary V., he is an in-your-face no nonsense type of entrepreneur who started selling wine and took it online before being online was the thing to do. You can count on him to be at the forefront of marketing and social media with tips that will help anyone who has ambitions of growing a brand/business, or will be in charge of growing someone else's business. Marketing Majors anyone?
5. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
It's a classic for a reason! Great for anyone who struggles in dealing with conflict, and a great read for those about to go to college or into their first real job. Whether you need to navigate relationships with customers or coworkers, this book will give you the tools to make sure you handle every situation in a way that makes everyone happy.
