Last week, I got up super early (ok, my dog got me up...) and decided to go for a sunrise photo walk in downtown Columbia. Summer has been so hot and humid that just walking around can be miserable here. However that morning it was a cool 71 degrees and absolutely perfect for meandering along.
What is it about a grungy alleyway that gets me every time? Seeing beauty in the grime? Whatever it is, for the last month or so, every time I was downtown I would see these alleys and think, "Dang, I need to get a photo of that." Add to that the fact that we have been looking at a ba-zillion travel photos on Pinterest as we try to plan our honeymoon, and it created the perfect storm to draw me out of my pj's and into the cool, quite, day.
Every so often, I get the itch to take a day off from portraits and just pretend I've never been to the place I am. Total tourist mode. That morning was so nice that there actually were other people sitting outside enjoying their morning cups of coffee and donuts before the heatwave descended. Have you ever walked past Harold's while you're on a diet for your wedding? It's a terrible punishment; I wouldn't force that on my worst enemy. Or would I?......
