I love my cheerleader seniors! They are a different breed, and I mean that in the best way possible. These girls are so talented, so strong, such amazing athletes. I absolutely love them. Peyton is no exception. For her session we actually broke it into two different days so that she could have her new uniform because she had changed gyms right at the time we were shooting her senior portraits. Instead of shooting everything in one day, which is what I normally do for seniors, we broke it into two different days so that she could wait for her uniform to come in.
When we started with her senior portrait session, it was a summer day she had gorgeous hair and makeup. Everything was super flawless and natural and I wanted to incorporate lots of bright bold colors into her shoot. Her outfits were really soft and flowy and feminine, so I paired those with locations that really brought out the colors in the outfit. You can see here we've got the orange striped jumpsuit, and we've also got an orange curb. You can see how the tree behind her pulls the colors out. I love doing that with my shots; either doing complementary colors where we bring out the opposite to make them really pop or pairing locations that are a near exact match to the outfits because it always =makes the photos that much more finished and polished.
We started downtown and shot a lot of modern really fun, urban looks. Then we went to a park and we finished up on this super fun bridge and down by the creek.
On her cheer session day we were able to get access to her gym. I took in all my lights with some color gels and darkened everything down. A lot of people worry when we go on location to their gyms that they're going to have a lot of distracting elements in the background and they don't want that at all. With off camera flash I am able to darken everything down and hide all of those distracting elements. You can see the little blue highlight I put on her with some color gels to really make her pop and tie into everything. We got really lucky that her gym has mats that match her outfit. Normally you wouldn't have a blue floor, but in this case it was a perfect because their cheer uniform is blue and white and goes with the gym colors. It was a perfect match and looks amazing!
If you are a senior athlete and you need senior photos, then we should talk as soon as possible! Your schedule is probably very, very crazy. For most of my senior athletes, fall is even crazier than summer. Also, if you are really sensitive to the heat (if you flush really easy) then we want to get to in by June before the heat really kicks in. Be sure to get in touch as soon as possible. I'm only taking 35 seniors for the Class of 2023. Over half of those are already snagged, so definitely get in touch as soon as possible!
