So yesterday I had this shoot with the 2017 quarterback of the Battle High football team - Brevinn Tyler. (#namedrop) Umm, yeah it was awesome. I won't lie, I was kind of nervous about this shoot. I mean, this guy is going to be playing college football, and my knowledge of football is pretty limited. I know what a touchdown and a fumble are, obviously, but 4th and 10? All purpose yardage? Yeah, no clue. Just ask my husband.
Anyway, Brevinn and his dad were super cool about the fact that I had no idea what terms I should be using to describe the poses I was looking for. For example, we were going through the uniform to get different shots and I was trying to describe the cage apparatus that goes across the front of the helmet, so naturally it became a "faceplate." (That's a face mask, Kacey.) Of course once I get something in my head, it sticks. Next pose: grab the "chest plate." Now everything is a ______plate. #facepalm At least I can always count on my adorable (?) lack of sports knowledge to break the ice.
We got some amazing shots, see below, and had a great time with some throwing images. He's a quarterback, so naturally each throw had precision and speed. However, for this purpose, I had to have him slow way down. I literally described it to him as "throwing like he was 86 years old." We had a small incident where the wind caught one of the lights, and all the great photos I've taken with that light by my side flashed before my eyes. Luckily Brevinn has quick hands and was able to grab the umbrella just before it crashed to the ground. Best. Client. Ever.
The shoot started shortly after 6, which normally isn't noteworthy, but this time it is. When we started there were some kiddos running the track, no big deal. The shoot ran until after 7, AND SO DID THOSE KIDS. Not kidding. They had some serious endurance. I wonder if I was unknowingly watching the future winners of the Boston Marathon.
